Unfortunately, the city fell into decline after the decline of the Roman Empire. When Napoleon landed in Alexandria, he saw only a small village of fishermen.

From the beginning of the last century Alexandria became a major port and trading center of Egypt. Among its inhabitants were many foreigners: Italians, Greeks, Lebanese. This created a special atmosphere in the city.
